York Auction Centre had 474 head of stock forward including 233 Cattle, 148 Sheep and 93 Pigs at their weekly sale of Prime stock.

CATTLE

64 Continental Young Bulls sold to 459p/kg from R E Schofield and to £3642.65 also from G H West & Sons; to average 411.58p/kg.

27 Native Breed Young Bulls sold to 413p/kg S G Wilkinson and to £3118.84 from D & J Voakes; to average 389.80p/kg.

17 Black and White Young Bulls sold to 420p/kg from A Spence & Co and to £2925.89 from A Sykes; to average 370.68p/kg.

42 Continental X Steers sold to 470p/kg from W Robshaw & Son and £3437.10 from M D Medd: to average 426.36p/kg.

6 Native breed Steers sold to 414p/kg from R H Dove and to £2770.45 also from R H Dove: to average 401.83p/kg.

1 Non – Continental Heifer sold to 300p/kg from T H Hobson LTD and to £1791.01 also from T H Hobson LTD; to average 299.50p/kg

48 Continental X Heifers sold to 475p/kg from Wilton Lodge Farms and to £3176.25 from H Crossley & Sons: to average 423.46p/kg.

7 Native breed Heifers sold to 459p/kg from Paddock Farm and to £2754.70 from G W & M Singleton & Sons: to average 411.93p/kg.

20 OTM sold to 349p/kg from D Mitchell and to £2600.94 from N T & J H Barrett; to average 282.03p/kg.

A busy sale across all sections once again today, with 109 bulls, 104 clean, and 20 OTM's penned. Bulls looked dearer on the week with a nicely finished, handy weight Lim x from R E Schofield topping the pp/kg at 458ppkg selling to Woolley bros of Sheffield, and Clifford West presented the top grossing cont x bull totalling £3642.65, selling to the same buyer and a further 23 bulls all broke the £3000 barrier! Dairy x brbx bulls were very good to sell once again from 4.00-topping at 440ppkg from Ryton Beef and the top grossing bulls in the section reached £3494 from regular mart supporters Wagstaff bros. Native bulls sold to 413ppkg jointly between J Galtrey with an aax and S G Wilkinson with a south devon, and the top grossing native was presented by D & J Voakes totalling £3118.84. Black and whites remain extremely sought after, topping at 420ppkg from A Spence & co with the best grossing black and white bull coming to a fantastic £2925.89 from Alan Sykes for a very well finished British Friesian x. All bulls forward today to average a tremendous 400ppkg across the board, up 8ppkg on the week!

 Whilst trade across clean looked back a pence or two on the week, all clean still look a good trade with 49 steers selling to tops of 470ppkg for a smart lim x from W Robshaw selling to Laverack butchers, and M D Medd topped the gross price at £3437 for a heavy Lim x selling to John Penny & sons, all steers today to average 420ppkg. 55 Heifers sold to 475ppkg for a superb Lim x from Wilton Lodge to John Pennys and sons, with the top grossing heifer presented by H Crossley & son totalling £3176. Brbx heifers looked well sold once again regularly around the 415-420ppkg mark and native crosses topped at 459ppkg for a Red Poll from Ryton beef, with most sorts regularly around 4.00. Native clean topped at £2770 for a 670kg Hereford from R H Dove.

109 Hoggs were better to sell this week with a lift of 10ppkg, the SQQ sat at 324.41, with an overall average of 326.96. R A Dobson took the top spot at 409ppkg for their usual quality beltex x and Ian Parvin topped overall at £190/ head for his 58kg char x hoggs. In the cull section, 39 head sold to £195/ head for a pen of tex x from J Smith, all culls to average £154.
